More than 60,000 Territorians hustle to vote early in NT election

THE number of early votes for the 2020 Territory election has soared past statistics from the 2016 election

MORE than 60,000 Territorian voters, or about 42 per cent of all those enrolled, have already voted in the NT election, smashing the 2016 record.

The NT Electoral Commission, in its daily update, confirmed 60,344 people had cast their ballot at early voting centres or lodged postal votes.

But with voter turnout in the NT historically hovering around 75 per cent, analysis by the NT News shows early voting turnout in the Territory could already be as high as 57 per cent of all ballots that will be cast by the time polls close on Saturday.

This includes significantly high voting numbers in the seat of Nelson, where based on average voter turnout, 69 per cent of people have already voted.

The NTEC also confirmed on Wednesday that no cake stalls, sausage sizzles or other fundraising activity will be allowed at polling booths on Saturday.
