A man will face court today over allegedly spitting and coughing on police after he was stopped for riding an unregistered motorcycle in Sydney’s south.

About 5.45pm on Friday, officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling the Beverly Hills area when they spotted a motorcyclist riding without a helmet on Tooronga Terrace.

Officers stopped the motorcycle to speak with the 31-year-old, before he allegedly tried to cough on them and spat at them.

The man was charged with 10 offences and will appear at Central Local Court.

The man underwent a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to St George Police Station, where he underwent a breath analysis test and allegedly returned a reading of 0.079.

The man was charged with 10 offences, including: drive with low range PCA, resist officer in execution of duty, drive on path, resist officer in execution of duty and not comply noticed direction.

The Tregear man was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court.

Yesterday, The Daily Telegraph revealed that in the span of just 24 hours NSW Police charged five people under the Public Health Act 2010, while 25 new COVID-19 related Public Infringement Notices (PINs) were also issued.

While most people are complying with the State Governments directions and staying home when possible, some people still aren’t getting the message.

One man was arrested in Mount Druitt following his fifth breach of the ministerial directions under the Public Health Act, despite receiving a warning and three PINs since the start of April.

On each occasion the man was allegedly found consuming alcohol in a public place with others. Following his arrest, the man was taken to Mount Druitt Police Station and charged with larceny, enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse and was refused bail.

Other charges:

-An 18-year-old man was arrested on Allen Street, Pyrmont allegedly telling police he was going to “hang out with a mate in Kings Cross”. During a subsequent search he was allegedly found in possession of cannabis and a prescription medication. He was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of possess prohibited drug and not comply with noticed direction re section 7/8/9 – COVID-19.

-A Parramatta man attended a golf club on Marsh Street, Arncliffe, and allegedly verbally threatened two employees before leaving. He was taken to St George Police Station and charged with two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (personal), and not comply with noticed direction re section 7/8/9 – COVID-19.

-A 39-year-old man who was allegedly drinking alcohol in a park on Little Bay Road, Little Bay was arrested after receiving two warnings and an infringement notice. He was taken to Maroubra Police Station and charged with not comply with direction.

-Tweed/Byron Police District officers arrested a man who returned a positive roadside breath test, before allegedly refusing follow up analysis at Tweed Heads Police Station. He was charged with breach of bail, refuse breath analysis, drive unregistered vehicle and unlicensed driver, not comply with noticed direction and was refused bail.

Police have also issued 25 new Public Infringement Notices (PINs) including:

-Two women sitting in a car in Sussex Street after receiving warnings in the days prior

-Two people for travelling from Victoria to use ‘Return and Earn’ facilities

-Four men after being seen drinking in a park on Carinya Ave, St Marys.

-Two women after travelling to a caravan park at Broadwater.

-Two teenage boys for failing to provide a reasonable excuse for being out of home at Carrington Street, Woonona

These new charges and fines come just days after a man who was told to isolate while awaiting COVID-19 test results told police he ‘didn’t care’ about the virus when he was arrested for allegedly leaving home to shop and see a mate.

The 52-year-old Eastern Suburbs man is among more than 600 people police say are still not getting the message when it comes to public health orders amid the COVID-19 crisis in NSW.

The man who was tested for the virus at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital on Monday was told by health officials to self-isolate for 48 hours until he received his results.

Police allege at 1.30pm the next day, he walked out of his home and told police doing a compliance check that he was going to the shops and then to a friend’s house.

Police said when asked why he wasn’t staying home, he allegedly told officers he didn’t care, and could leave his house whenever he wanted to.

The man was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where he was charged with not comply with noticed direction. He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
