NT Police is asking motorists who saw a blue Mitsubishi Outlander station wagon missing a tyre and being driven on the wrong side of the highway at Pinelands to come forward.

The normally four-wheeld car was missing its rear left tyre when police came across the speeding vehicle at 9.40pm Friday.

Cops pursued the car up to Foundation Rd, at which point it crossed onto the inbound lanes and continued at high speed through the Berrimah Rd traffic lights.

A police spokeswoman said the car then drove off the road and struck a tree near the Berrimah defence base.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was not injured and was immediately arrested at the scene.

Throughout the incident a number of motorists had to take evasive action to avoid the three-wheeled car.

The spokeswoman said police were particularly interested in a motorcycle rider, who may or may not have been struck by the car when it approached Foundation Rd.
