National Apology: PM Scott Morrison apologises to victims of child sex abuse

SCOTT Morrison has avoided a grilling after the Wentworth by-election result as today's Question Time was cancelled out of respect to the victims of child sex abuse.

In an unprecedented show of unity, the Coalition and Labor both agreed to cancel the brutal questioning session to maintain the mood of the day.

It comes after the Prime Minister today delivered a landmark national apology to victims of child sexual abuse in institutions.

Mr Morrison has all but lost his one-seat majority after a devastating 18 per cent swing against the Liberals in the Wentworth by-election on Saturday.

Independent Kerryn Phelps is set to claim victory in Malcolm Turnbull's former seat this week.

But Mr Morrison can expect Labor leader Bill Shorten to be on the attack tomorrow as he stares down the barrel of leading a minority government.

The PM also faces the possibility that Labor will again try to refer Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton to the High Court over his stake in a child care company that receives federal government funding, which could further imperil his hold on government.
