Fast food fights: Why do they happen?

MCDONALD’S has settled on a block of land for a new store in Casuarina, purchasing the Bradshaw Terrace site for $4m.

The site, which was previously a Home Timber and Hardware store, is set to be converted into a drive through McDonald’s restaurant after it was sold by NTC Property Director Nigel Sharp.

McDonald’s confirmed the sale but said there were still a number of conditions still to be approved and they would have more details early next year.

Some of those conditions included the provision of shade over a bicycle parking area, lighting and garbage bins in the parking area and a secure bicycle parking facility for the use of staff members, as well as the submission of traffic and stormwater drainage reports.

However, it is not known what conditions the fast food chain is yet to have approved.

The McDonald’s store will join Red Rooster and Hungry Jack’s in the immediate vicinity, with several other options close by at the Casuarina Square shopping centre and Casuarina Plaza.

The restaurant would become the second in the suburb, 700m away from McDonald’s in the shopping centre.

McDonald’s fan Tyler Bell said while the new store would be joining several other fast food outlets in the area, it would be a good addition to the area.

“It’s going to be good for the area and just another option,” Mr Bell said.

“I like the taste and convenience of it, it’s always good after a night out.”

Mr Bell said tearing down the existing derelict building and developing a brand new store for McDonald’s would improve the amenity of the area.

“It’ll help clean up the area, people will take pride in the area,” he said.

“Just having a new McDonald’s, people will make the most of it being here.”

Earlier this year, the NT News reported the restaurant would have a dining area with 100 seats and an internal party room, along with a dual-lane drive through with 18 waiting parking bays, 63 parking bays and 12 bicycle racks.

It would become the tenth McDonald’s franchise in the Northern Territory.
