Hundreds of cans of beer and soft drink were strewn across the M7 Motorway after a B-double slammed into an embankment and rolled.
The truck lost control and skidded across the median strip before flipping on its side and blocking the M7 northbound between Elizabeth Drive and Cowpasture Rd at Cecil Hills around 2:30am.
The road reopened about 9:30am, almost seven hours after the crash.
The force of the crash sent the truck’s precious beer cargo spilling onto the road while the driver escaped with a bloody head injury.
Morning commuters faced long delays with both lanes of the M7 being closed for much of the morning.
Bumper-to-bumper traffic gridlocked surrounding streets, with northbound traffic backed up around 6km and southbound lanes reduced to 40km/h.
Drivers were told to avoid the area and divert via Cowpasture Rd, Elizabeth Drive and Wallgrove Road to rejoin the highway at Eastern Creek.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The driver was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment and mandatory testing.
