Lockhart River fatal: Police investigating third fatal crash in as many days

Four lives have tragically been lost in Far North crashes in just three days after a 16-year-old boy died overnight following a rollover in Cape York.

FOUR lives have been lost in traffic crashes in the Far North in just three days.

The most recent occurred overnight when a 16-year-old male died after the vehicle he was in lost control and rolled at Lockhart River.

Initial investigations indicate about 8.40pm the single vehicle was travelling on Lockhart River Mission Road when it lost control and rolled over.

A 16-year-old male passenger was transported to the Lockhart River Health Centre where he died a few hours later.

A 17-year-old male passenger has been be flown to Cairns Base Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The 18-year-old male driver and two 16-year-old male passengers were not physically injured.

Investigations are continuing.

On Saturday, three people were killed in separate road tragedies across the region.

A man in his 40s died in a vehicle crash on a private property at Normanton just before 1am on Saturday.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the man was one of three in the vehicle.

“I believe two were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries to Mount Isa,” he said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

A passionate motorcycling enthusiast from Cairns and a young Julatten man were also killed in two crashes within two hours on Saturday.

A 62-year-old man from Manunda was travelling south on Almaden Gingerella Road, Almaden with two other motorcycle riders and lost control on an unsealed section of the road.

He died at the scene. The other motorcyclists were not injured.

A man in his 20s died just hours after at Mount Molloy following an alleged ATV rollover.

Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.

Tablelands police Acting Insp Greg Giles said investigations into both crashes were continuing as he begged motorists to take care on the road.
