Lisa Wilkinson and husband Peter FitzSimons have rubbed shoulders with Hollywood stars, celebrity chefs, politicians, and fellow high-profile Australian media identities at their traditional election night party within their Sydney harbourside mansion.

According to The Australian’s Media Diary, actor Simon Baker, British chef Nigella Lawson, WSFM hosts Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller, Mike Carlton and even NSW Treasurer and Liberal member Matt Kean were among the attendees at the “BYO plate” bash on Saturday night.

The publication reports that “things started particularly nervously” for the largely pro-Labor guests as the inconclusive results first began to roll in, but the mood quickly shifted to “buoyant” as it became clear that Anthony Albanese was set to triumph over Scott Morrison.

Media Diary also reported that the party went on “into the wee hours”.

On Sunday, Wilkinson herself gave fans an insight into her election night, sharing a photo alongside Simon Baker, journalist Jennifer Byrne and host of ABC’s The Drum Julia Baird.

“Well that was a fun night. This one’s for you Brittany Higgins,” she wrote in the caption of her Instagram post.

Wilkinson issued a scathing take-down of Scott Morrison after the Liberal Party suffered a stark election defeat.

The author and journalist has been a harsh critic of Mr Morrison’s performance as Prime Minister and policies put forward by the Liberal Party.

Tweeting on Sunday morning, Wilkinson wrote: “Last night’s result proves that if you look the other way when it comes to women, the planet, corruption, bad behaviour and a refugee family who want to do nothing more than live a safe life in a country town that loves them, change is always going to happen”.

Throughout the election, Wilkinson has shared her disapproval of Mr Morrison’s leadership. Most recently she criticised the comments he made regarding the future of the National Disability Insurance Scheme at the Sky News/The Courier Mail People’s Forum during the election campaign.

When asked a question by a mum of a four-year-old autistic son, who had his NDIS funding cut by 30 per cent, the outgoing Prime Minister made a comment that: “Jenny and I have been blessed, we have two children who haven’t had to go through that. And so for parents, with children who are disabled, I can only try and understand your aspirations for those children.”

The comments were lashed by Tennis star and current Australian of the Year, Dylan Alcott, who tweeted: “Woke up this morning feeling very blessed to be disabled – I reckon my parents are pretty happy about it too”.

“Feeling sorry for us and our families doesn’t help. Treating us equally, and giving us the choice and control over our own lives does.”

In response to Alcott’s comment’s, Wilkinson called him a “true leader”.

“Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott is not only blessed … for all of us he is a blessing. And a true leader.”

Saturday night saw Mr Albanese and the Labor Party dramatically win against the Coalition. By Sunday morning, more seats had been called for Labor, with The Australian projecting that the party will be able to form a majority government.

This will be the first time the Coalition will have to hand over power to the Opposition in nine years.
