Julie Bishop could be trading the political stage for the small screen with a new talk show.
The former foreign affairs minister is reportedly canvassing the interest of major networks for a new television show called The Conversation with Julie Bishop.
Leaked pitch documents, obtained by The Australian, show production house Screentime is spruiking the show as “pure conversation” between Ms Bishop and a cast of high profile potential guests, including Michelle Obama, Princess Mary, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Oprah Winfrey, Sia and Nigella Lawson.
The Australian reports the show - which would have a considerable price tag flying Ms Bishop and cast to exotic locations to speak to guests - has been a source of amusement for network executives.
“Host Julie Bishop, accustomed to disarming the most tricky of personalities, invites guests on lengthy ambling interviews filmed on the streets of a city of the guest’s choice, in full view of passers-by,” the pitch documents say.
“This is pure conversation. Two great minds. No tricks.
“The strength of the show comes from the universal truth that we talk more deeply and naturally on the move … we take the powerful players out to the street where it all began. “Where ideas can be shared in the cold light of day.”
“The hustle and bustle of the world are invited into the conversation — what happens when a member of the public interrupts the interview to share their admiration for the guest?”
Ms Bishop has yet to announce her next major move after retiring from politics in February.
She turned down an offer to be the next governor of South Australia and has indicated she is looking for a job in the private sector.
