NOTHING goes with wine and cheese like good conversation … but for local speech language pathologist Trish Hull that conversation comes with a twist.
The woman behind ‘Wine and Sign’ nights on the Gold Coast, Ms Hull brings together those learning to use basic signs in a fun and social event to practice their skills.
As director of My Therapy Space at Burleigh she hosts the ‘Wine and Sign’ nights for those who have a basic understanding of Makaton or Key Word signing or have completed a basic course.
“We learn the key important words as an additional way to communicate because of disabilities or delays,” Ms Hull explained.

“At these nights we get together and practice, have games in a relaxing way while enjoying a bit of wine.
“We have lots of carers come along but also people who are interested who have done the basic course.
“Learning a new language is always a good thing.”
Ms Hull who has taught signing in four countries will host the event from 6pm tonight at My Therapy Space in Burleigh Waters. Cost is $50.
