Election 2022: Scott Morrison wants to ‘eat Anthony Albanese alive’ according to body language expert

The two leaders striving to be PM can’t hide their true feelings, according to a body language expert. Here’s how to know when they’re confident - and when they’re terrified.

'We need civil discourse': Albanese condemns man who heckled Morrison

Anthony Albanese is suffering from “performance anxiety”, according to a body language expert.

Dr Louise Mahler says the Opposition Leader is so nervous his mouth is dry and he is licking his lips all the time.

This reveals the pressure he is under, she says.

After Mr Albanese’s gaffe on the first day of the election campaign saying he didn’t know the current unemployment rate or the cash rate, the pressure on him has been visibly mounting.

“I think he did know the numbers the other day but he just couldn’t think because of performance anxiety,” Dr Mahler said.

“And people see performance anxiety as failure.

“He should have just said ‘I know it – but I am having a blank moment’.

“That happens.”

Photographs and vision of Mr Albanese at media conferences on day three of the election campaign reveal him not only half-clenching his fist – which is not a bad thing according to Dr Mahler – but also clenching his teeth and jaw.

“His eye contact is gone, his breath is gone – you can’t think if you can’t breathe,” Dr Mahler said, explaining the photos show his jaw is getting tenser and tenser.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison, on the other hand, is like a tiger licking his lips, giving the impression of “let me eat him (Mr Albanese) alive”, says Dr Mahler.

She says Mr Morrison comes across as a performer, an animal – a predator, “a killer”.

“He is lifting his posture, and going in for the kill,” she said.

“Mr Morrison can get in front of a camera and deliver.

“Anthony Albanese can’t present and can’t deliver – and now it is too late.

“Once you get in this state there is no coming out of it fast.”

Dr Mahler said her advice to Mr Albanese is to “breathe” and practice breathing techniques, because if he can’t get over this crisis of confidence, it will happen again.
