A DRIVER who was leaning out his car’s window to see because his windscreen was so smashed has been charged with multiple offences, including drink driving.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Siiri Tennosaar said the man, 20, had to lean out the driver’s side window to try to see the road and navigate the streets.

“A 20-year-old male has been arrested for traffic offences after being observed by police driving a vehicle with a smashed windscreen in Palmerston overnight,” Senior Sergeant Tennosaar said.

“The male was observed at around 8.30pm last night on the Stuart Highway in Palmerston, driving the vehicle whilst leaning out the driver’s side window due to the windscreen being so heavily cracked he could not see through it.”

Snr Sgt Tennosaar said the man was given a breath test after he was pulled over before a number of charges were laid.

“He returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.135 per cent,” she said.

“He was charged with drive medium range, drive unlicensed, drive unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle and drive motor vehicle unsafe to drive.”
