The brazen theft threatened to derail his family’s finances and forced them to lay off a staff member on the FV Condamine as they prepared their last catch of the year.

“We can’t believe it, it brought tears to my eyes,” said an elated Jodi Deuble.

“My daughter asked Brett what he wanted for Christmas yesterday, he replied ‘I just want my boat back’. It is such a relief to our family.”

Everything from the 50 horsepower Yamaha outboard, trailer and ‘even all the fishing gear and Esky’ was located at an abandoned property north of Cairns by a real estate agent.

Ms Deuble said her husband ‘is that excited’ he is returning from sea a day earlier to pick up his beloved boat, which is used to fish areas of the reef his main vessel can’t reach.

“We’ve been so overwhelmed by everyone’s support in providing information to the police, and just the community interest,” she said.

“This wasn’t just about us, it was our crew’s livelihood as well. They rely on us to make a living.”

The F.V Condamine’s wild caught seafood is hugely popular with Port Douglas residents and tourists who buy fresh off the public jetty.

They will be joined by the FV Santiego from 7am on Saturday for the last sale before Christmas.

“We were wondering if it was appropriate to put on some beers at the jetty,” Ms Deuble said.

“With this news, we think it probably is.”
