Bomb threat: Watsonville dad Shane Duffy charged over 000 call

A holiday family drama has allegedly ended with a dad’s threats to blow up a plane.

A HOLIDAY family drama has allegedly ended with a Watsonville dad threatening to blow up an aircraft.

Shane Michael Duffy, 38, allegedly called triple-0 at 9.50am on Monday and threatened to bomb an aircraft.

Cairns Magistrates Court heard Mr Duffy had made the call days after his former partner allegedly took his children from his sister’s house over the Christmas break.

“The two boys were gone from the house and their suitcases were missing,” Trish Price, defending, said.

The court heard Mr Duffy called emergency services after the woman rang to say she would return the children “in a couple of weeks”.

Police allege he made threats over the phone to kill the woman.

“He actively told police he would kill his ex-partner, that ‘no piece of paper’ would prevent that.”

Police further allege Mr Duffy struck a female officer in the face when police attended his house.

The defendant has not yet entered pleas to charges of making threats to destroy an aircraft, using a mobile phone to make threats and assaulting police.

Mr Duffy told the court he “was still very upset; I have a hot mouth”. “I won’t push my luck,” he said.

Acting Magistrate Raimund Heggie bailed Mr Duffy to attend Atherton Magistrates Court on January 22 for mention.
