An Australian traveller has sparked a heated debate after sharing how much they forked out for a ham and cheese croissant and a juice at an airport.

An Aussie traveller has been left disgusted over how much it cost to buy a croissant and orange juice at an airport.

“BEHOLD! The $18.69 breakfast at Sumo Salad Brisbane Airport,” they wrote on social media.

The croissant set them back $12.50, while the juice was $6, they were slugged with a 16c card surcharge fee.

The diner has sparked debate after sharing the photo online.

The post sparked a heated debate with some claiming the meal’s price was a fair one.

“I don’t see the problem. The airport know you’ll pay, and you paid,” one person said.

“The alternative is Brisbane Airport charges lower rents but increases ticket charges. One way or the another you are paying the costs to run an airport.”

Another user was quick to chime in, saying the prices were reflective of high business costs in a busy airport.

“The price is expensive mainly because the lease for the trading area is very high,” they wrote.

“There is some entrapment penalty but it is covering the cost of the lease that means the prices are high. This is because the owners are taking complete capitalistic advantage of it, not because they have to cover ticket prices (that's the airlines) but simply because they can.”

Others were more sympathetic to the traveller’s woes, saying $18 was expensive for what was bought.

“That’s f***ing wild! Lol at the card surcharge like they didn’t already just rob you,” one person wrote.

“I get upset if I have to pay $6 for a ham and cheese croissant,” added another.

“I just wouldn’t buy it, f*** that. I’d rather have ice and air.”
