Australia Zoo reveals more details on NFT project to aid their wildlife and conservation efforts

As the Irwin family prepare to launch into the crypto world for the zoo’s 20th anniversary, they’ve revealed how their first collection will work and what it will cost.

The Irwin family have released touching details about their project launch into the crypto world, with their first non-fungible token (NFT) collection paying tribute to Steve Irwin.

In partnership with Australian-based technology start-up Meadow Labs, the rare NFT project will consist of a series of digital artworks that can be purchased by the public, with each art focusing on a different Australia Zoo “Wildlife Warriors” animal.

The project will be raising awareness and funds to protect Australia’s wildlife and wild places, a cause close to the heart of the Irwin family.

An NFT is a unique digital asset stored on a digital ledger (blockchain) that can be sold or traded.

Each token, which can take different forms including a digital image or video, is uniquely identifiable. However, unlike Bitcoin or cryptocurrency, NFTs cannot be replicated.

Ahead of its launch on June 14 at 7pm, the first Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors NFT drop will focus on the Australian “Warrior Croc” Saltwater Crocodile.

Inspired by Steve Irwin, who was nicknamed “The Crocodile Hunter” for his love and passion for this misunderstood species, the NFT will be available for $50.

With only 2,000 NFT available in the Warrior Croc drop, purchasers will also have access to a wide variety of bonuses including special rewards and secret surprises.

Robert Irwin, who helps run the family business on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast with his sister Bindi and mum Terri, said the new venture will “continue his dad’s legacy” and wildlife mission.

The first NFT token drop will be dedicated to Steve Irwin and his love for wildlife.

“We are thrilled to be launching the first series of Wildlife Warriors NFTs to support our conservation projects across Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors,” Robert Irwin said.

“We are continuing dad‘s legacy of achieving a world where wildlife and humans can live harmoniously alongside each other, and it is brilliant to be able to use the world’s first carbon negative blockchain to further support our important mission.”

Created with blockchain technology provider Algorand, the limited NFT series is being launched to mark the 20th anniversary of Australia Zoo’s Wildlife Warriors.

The first drop is the first of a five part animal collectable series, with the fifth animal only available to buyers who hold one NFT from the other four animal drops.

All proceeds will be donated towards Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors conservation efforts.

“Projects like this demonstrate how NFTs can positively impact any brand or business,” co-founder and chief executive officer of Meadow Labs, Martin Kelly said.

“Our aim was to make these NFTs affordable and easily accessible through fiat purchases so that regardless of your knowledge of NFTs anyone can participate.”

The steps to purchase a Wildlife Warriors NFT are:

1. Create an Algorand wallet.
2. Visit an exchange of choice and purchase $ALGO.
3. Connect the Algorand wallet to the button on the top right of the Australia Zoo NFT web page.

The Warrior Croc NFTs will be globally available for purchase with local currency on-ramping via MoonPay on australiazoonfts.com.
