Australia Day 2021: Police shut down Lilli Pilli beach party for COVID breach

Australia Day revellers were sent packing by police after they were dobbed in for partying with too many people.

Australia Day revellers were given their marching orders from a popular swimming spot for breaching public health laws on Tuesday.

The beachside partygoers were reported too police for gathering in too greater numbers than what is allowed as a result of social distancing.

Police arrived at Lilli Pilli south of Sydney, about 3pm to find hoards of people, marques on a sandbar and boats surrounding it.

Boats were tied together to create floating parties as girls in bikinis and boys in boardshorts enjoyed drinks and listened to music.

With the help of Water Police, the Australia Day crowd with the eskies, boom-boxes, flags and a distinct lack of shirts were separated.

Police sources said nobody was fined or arrested.
