The American artist who posed more than 5000 people nude on the steps of the Opera House is recruiting Aussies for a coronavirus nude shoot in isolation.
Lingerie store manager Lee Smyth, 29, has already signed up for New York photographer Spencer Tunick’s mass nude photo shoot that will be done simultaneously on a video conference call. “I think it will be a really beautiful way to capture what is a very unusual time that we are all living through,” Ms Smyth said.
Two years ago she joined 549 other people to pose nude for him in a Melbourne shopping precinct. “It will be a very different experience to the one in Chapel Street,” she said.
Speaking from his home in New York, Mr Tunick said he had taken a group nude photograph every year for the last 25 years but this one would be unique: “I had been planning to put thousands of nude people on the new runway at Brisbane airport but it was cancelled because of COVID-19.”
He said the area he lived in north of New York City had been particularly hard hit by the virus. “My wife Kristin has been in tears because of all the misinformation,” the 53-year-old said.
