MORE signage could help prevent locals and tourists from unwanted encounters with box jellyfish at Darwin beaches next year.
Darwin alderman Robin Knox is pushing Darwin council to upgrade box jellyfish safety signage by the end of the year, saying someone could be seriously injured if they were not aware of the dangers.
“Council provides and maintains access to the beaches and there is a need to warn the public of the wet season dangers at our beaches,” she said.
“In a similar manner council is providing animal management signs at the entrance to busy beaches to assist in reducing the risk of harm to the public.
“As we encourage more visitors to Darwin, I am concerned that someone may be stung and die if we do not replace missing warning signage at our beaches.”

Ms Knox said the upgrades could be funded from council’s shared paths budget.
Council will approve the upgrades at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
