A DARWIN man in his 30s has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) after returning from South America last Sunday.

He was in self-quarantine before becoming unwell and is now in isolation at the Royal Darwin Hospital under the care of NT Health.

The man travelled to the Northern Territory on Sunday March 22 on QF796 from Melbourne to Alice Springs and then from Alice Springs to Darwin on QF2974.

Contact tracing on these flights is underway.

In all, 14 Territorians have now tested positive to COVID-19, including one who was diagnosed while in New South Wales and is being treated in the NSW health system.

A Queenslander and a New South Welshman have also tested positive while in the Northern Territory and are currently receiving treatment in Darwin.

Including those two cases, 15 cases of COVID-19 in total are now being treated in the Northern Territory.
