TWO beloved farm animals stolen from a busy Sydney cafe in a midnight break and enter have been found in Victoria.
KEVIN’S bacon has been saved along with his sheep sidekick Bradley who were found in Victoria after they were kidnapped from the Grounds of Alexandria Cafe last month.
Three intruders stole the prized animals from their barn inside the cafe on Puntley Street, Alexandria about 1am on Monday, October 7.
“The Grounds were contacted by the owner of an animal shelter in Goongerah over the weekend stating she received a pig and lamb,” the cafe said in a Facebook post last night.
“The animals have now been taken care of on location at the veterinary clinic in Orbost due to Kevin recovering from anxiety and an infection, which developed during his capture. Bradley is in good health.”
NSW Police said the animals were dropped off at the shelter two weeks ago and they were made aware of their whereabouts yesterday. Victorian Police are now investigating how the animals made the trip south.
“On behalf of everyone here at The Grounds of Alexandria, we’d like to thank the community and media for their unbelievable support since Kevin and Bradley were taken from their home with us,” the post said.
“We held genuine concern for their safety after thieves broke in and we have now increased security to ensure this will never happen again.”
The date of Kevin Bacon and Bradley’s return to the cafe is expected to be known later this week.
A $5000 “no-questions-asked” reward was offered by Grounds director Jack Hanna at the time.
“Kevin’s like a family member considering all the guys who take him home and bath him and watched him grow up,” he said.
The theft set off a wave of anger with children at the cafe reduced to tears at the news of their disappearance.
CCTV footage showed three people in hats, believed to be two women and a man, entering the property and stealing the two animals.
A cleaner found the gates to the barn open and called Redfern Police about 2.30am who are still looking for the culprits.
In a post on its Facebook page, The Grounds said Kevin Bacon was suffering from anxiety and an infection, while Bradley was in good health.
