Mudgeeraba soccer club break-in and vandalism now a police investigation

A Gold Coast sports club suspects someone who knows the clubhouse well is behind a break-in and vandalism that is now the subject of a police investigation.

Mudgeeraba soccer club was allegedly robbed and vandalised

A popular Gold Coast sports club has lost equipment and suffered vandalism in a break-in it suspects was an inside job by someone who knew the premises well.

The Mudgeeraba Soccer Club has taken to social media to claim the culprit or culprits for the February 12 robbery managed to evade club security systems and cameras - and is appealing to the public for more information.

A Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said police were still investigating: “Initial investigations indicate that around 9pm the alleged offender gained access to the sports facility by damaging a gate and a wall.

“Once inside, it is alleged they have stolen a large number of items including photographic and medical equipment. The offender then left the scene in a red sedan.

“Anyone in the area at the time of the incident, or who may have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, is asked to come forward,” the QPS spokesman said.

A post to social media from the club said the clubhouse was broken into and “vandalised” - adding “those responsible knew the club well, managing to avoid cameras and security alarms”.

“Further damage has been found throughout the clubhouse, meaning it will remain closed for a period of time.

“With the 2025 season kicking off, teams training, and pre-season carnivals about to begin, this has had a significant impact on our club.”

A spokesman for the club said CCTV footage showed the suspected perpetrator using a grinder to cut through a steel barred door.

“Whoever it was was quite calm,” he said. “They were even whistling at some points.”

He said the alleged offender seemed to shield their face in all the places there were security cameras, and managed to get to the club’s back office, which the spokesman said is difficult to find.

“It’s like a labyrinth.”

The alleged burglar completely avoided the main clubhouse, where all the alcohol was kept and is alarmed.

The club spokesman said some confusion surrounded the robbery, as nothing of great value was taken, instead “operational” items like clipboards and old computers went missing.

“Just the damage that was done to the building was of substantial cost,” he said.

The spokesman said the outpouring of support from the community had been “excellent,” with club sponsors stepping up to help out, and other clubs offering to replace stolen items or spread the word.
