About $35,000 has been raised in the second fundraising event for the family of a little girl whose skull was fractured during an alleged home invasion in Alice Springs.
At least 200 people gathered at the Alice Springs Brewing Co on Saturday night to welcome home and raise money for the Siguenza family.
The latest fundraiser adds to the $56,929 that has been raised for the Siguenza’s on GoFundMe and more than $1000 in a community bake sale.
Auctions for 17 items as well as a 19-prize raffle were held on the night, with all proceeds raised going to the Siguenzas.
The Butterfly Connection chairman Rachel McCallum, an organiser of the fundraiser, said the atmosphere on the night was positive.
“It was a packed house and there were very happy vibes,” she said.
“It was a phenomenal and fantastic night.”
Ms McCallum said the Siguenza family on the night were nervous but grateful.
“I think they were a bit nervous and a little overwhelmed obviously,” she said.
“But they were so happy to see how many people were there to support them.”
“Their speech was very beautiful.”
Ms McCallum said two-month-old Antonia was in a much better state.
“Antonia is well, we’ve been told,” she said.
“Her doctors gave her the all clear and it sounds like there will be no long-term effects like we initially feared.”
On December 11, two-month-old Antonia and mother Nicole were flown to Adelaide hospital from Alice Springs.
Ms Siguenza, who was holding Antonia, had allegedly been struck in the face with a metal pole wielded by one of two teenage boys in a home invasion.
Antonia’s skull was fractured as a result.
The two teens, aged 16 and 17, were both charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, unlawfully causing serious harm, aggravated assault, and theft.
Both remain in custody.
