WEST Adelaide has appointed Mark Mickan as its senior coach for the next two seasons.
It will be the return of a favourite son - Mickan played with the Bloods from 1981-86, winning four best and fairests. He was the club's football operations manager in 2012 before resigning in January for family reasons. It will be his first coaching stint since being sacked as Glenelg coach midway through 2011. He had led the Tigers to four finals series and the 2008 grand final. Mickan also coached Woodville-West Torrens from 1998-99. He replaces Andrew Collins, who announced he was stepping down from the role in August. In a statement on West's website, Mickan said he was excited to return to coaching. "I look forward to working with WAFC's dedicated players, support staff and board striving to win the SANFL premiership," he said. Mickan played 139 games for the Bloods before joining the (then) Brisbane Bears. He was the Bears' captain from 1987-89, playing 48 games. He was an all-Australian in 1988. Mickan moved to the fledgling Crows in 1991, winning the club's best and fairest award in its inaugural year. He played 37 games for Adelaide. More to come
