December 29, 8.45am: A foreign worker has been attacked and knocked unconscious while on an evening jog in Katherine, with police launching an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
NT Police said in a statement released Sunday morning the woman, a 28-year-old foreign national who was working in the Territory, was jogging between Ntimiluk and Gorge Rd, northeast of the township, when she was “knocked unconscious” about 6pm Saturday.
“She suffered injuries causing her to become unconscious,” police said.
“[The woman] regained consciousness and managed to reach the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre where she was assisted by staff, and police were then contacted.
“The woman had suffered a laceration to her head and further injuries and was conveyed to Katherine Hospital for treatment before being released.
“She has since spoken with detectives from the Northern Investigations Section who are investigating the cause of her injuries.”
Police are urging people who were in the area of Gorge Road and Nitmiluk between 4–8pm last night to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference NTP2400132309.
Cabbie punched and threatened with a knife in Nightcliff: Police
December 28, 1.30pm: A violent knife-point robbery has left a cabbie with injuries and five offenders at large, police say.
The robbery occurred along Trower Rd at Nightcliff about 4.40am, NT Police said in a statement.
Five men are alleged to have stopped the taxi in the middle of the road.
NT Police said one offender allegedly threatened the driver with a knife, while another located and stole a bag containing cash.
Police then allege the driver was punched in the face and one of the cab’s windows smashed before the offenders fled the area.
Posting to social media, a young man claimed to have disrupted the armed robbery, which he said occurred near the intersection of Skelton St, near where Bagot Rd becomes Trower Rd.
“Five Indigenous kids, all with tools for break and enters et cetera, bolted towards Litchfield [Court],” he wrote.
“[They] assaulted [the] driver, dusted up but he’s ok.”

Cigarettes, cash stolen in United Katherine South smash-and-grab, police say
December 27, 2024: Another Katherine service station has been the target of a smash and grab, police say.
In a statement, NT Police said an unknown number of thieves smashed through the front glass door of United Katherine South about 10pm Friday and stole approximately $15,000 worth of cigarettes and cash.
Damage to the building was estimated at about $20,000.

Spitting on police: Man arrested for alleged Mitchell St mayhem
Updated - December 27, 2pm: A 26-year-old man went on a violent rampage on Mitchell St late Thursday night, allegedly assaulting random members of the public and stealing a vehicle, according to NT Police.
Police received reports that a man, accompanied by two others, allegedly assaulted a man on Mitchell Street near the intersection of McLachlan Street at 11pm on Boxing Day.
After the alleged assault, police said the group tried to enter a nearby licenced premises, where the offender allegedly assaulted two employees, including spitting on one of them.
Police alleged the offender fled a short distance before assaulting another man and stealing his white Hyundai vehicle.
The 26-year-old man drove through Knuckey Street and back onto Mitchell Street, before fleeing the vehicle on foot, police said.
He was pursued and arrested by police at around 11.20pm.
While being processed, the offender allegedly attempted to spit on police officers multiple times, before returning a positive breath test for alcohol.
The man was charged with multiple offences, including two counts of assault, aggravated robbery, multiple traffic offences, and two counts of assault on police.
Detectives from Strike Force Trident are investigating the incident and are urging anyone with information to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference NTP2400131929.

Man at large following alleged sexual assault of a minor on Christmas Day
December 26, 2pm: A 19-year old man remains at large following the alleged sexual assault of a minor.
The alleged sexual assault occurred in the evening of Christmas Day at a residence in Darwin’s northern suburbs, police say.
NT Police said they believe the man is known to the victim, a girl aged between 14-16.
NT Police are calling for anyone with information to call 131 444 and quote P24360256.
Christmas Day hit and run
December 26, 12.30pm: A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Darwin overnight, with police declaring the incident a hit and run.
About 9.35pm on Christmas Day, emergency services responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on the corner of Patterson Street and Vanderlin Drive in Wulagi.
Police alleged the offending vehicle did not stop to render assistance and fled the scene.
The 40-year-old victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
A crime scene was declared and police continue to investigate the incident.

Christmas Day alleged drug driver rolls vehicle in Katherine
December 25, 8am: A man has been arrested in Katherine for alleged drug driving after he rolled his road train on the Stuart Highway, police have said.
Police responded to calls on Christmas morning that two rear trailers of a road train had rolled about 40km north of Katherine.
A passing driver stopped to help decouple the rolled trailers while the truck cab and the first trailer remained upright.
One detached trailer was in the median strip of the Stuart Highway near the Edith Falls turnoff and the other was on the left-hand side of the north bound lanes, partially protruding into the lane, police said.
The 35-year-old driver of the crashed road train left the area while the assisting driver called emergency services at 08.06am.
Katherine officers attended the scene and found the driver of the crashed vehicle at a rest stop about 4km north of the crash scene at about 11am.
A search of the man found prohibited drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The driver was arrested and taken back to Katherine watch house.
‘Targeted’: Man attacked with hammer in Darwin home invasion
December 23, 10am: A man has been left with serious head injuries, and four teens assaulted in what police allege was a “targeted” home invasion and attack.
A 57-year-old man is in a critical condition at Royal Darwin Hospital after he was allegedly assaulted with a hammer by two men in a Ludmilla residence about 1.30am on Monday morning, police said.
Four teenagers aged between 12 and 14 were also in the residence on Mawalan Court at the time, police said.
They suffered minor injuries, and two were taken to hospital for treatment.
An NT Police spokesman said the two alleged offenders’ identities were unknown to police, and they remained at large as of Monday morning.
“At this stage it appears to be a targeted attack by two offenders,” Assistant Commissioner Matt Hollamby told media earlier on Monday morning.
“Four teenagers were also present and suffered some minor injuries.
“The understanding is that the weapon was a hammer which was brought with the person to the scene.”
Major crime investigators are in the early stages of their investigation.
