The father of a girl whose body was found in a barrel in the NSW Blue Mountains five days after she was reported missing has spoken of his heartache at losing his daughter.
A man has been charged with the nine-year-old’s murder after he was arrested in a Surry Hills unit in Sydney’s inner city on Tuesday night.
Police discovered the girl’s remains in a plastic drum near the Colo River shortly before his arrest.
In an emotional social media post, the man – whose daughter cannot legally be identified – said he had been missing her since she disappeared last Friday.
“Goodbye you beautiful little girl. I love you so much. I miss you every day!” the girl’s father wrote.
“You have captured the hearts of the nation and the world, and now those hearts are breaking, with mine.
“This doesn’t happen! Kids need to be safe. What is wrong with you people? We will get the answers for you baby, and we will honour you properly.
“This is not the end of you or your story.”
The girl’s mother was last seen being taken to hospital and was not at the apartment when the man was arrested.
