Townsville locals Leigh and Geoff Caldwell are gearing up for their first stint in the annual Great Endeavour Rally.

Under the team name ‘Happy Feat Adventures’, the couple said they cannot wait to explore the outback of Queensland while raising much needed funds.

“I run a dance troupe in Townsville called ‘Happy Feat’, and not only are we a group which celebrates all abilities, so many of our members are connected with Endeavour Foundation,” Mrs Caldwell said.

“As running Happy Feat has been such a significant part of my life, when the Great Endeavour Rally opportunity came up, my husband and I felt it perfectly aligned with our mission to make a difference, break down barriers, and promote acceptance and inclusion.”

Departing on August 23 more than 150 drivers from 70 teams will drive off into the outback, taking on 4000 kilometres of dirt roads for the annual fundraiser, supporting the Endeavour Foundation on their mission to help the lives of people living with a disability.

With this year marking the 35th year of the rally, the foundation has raised over $13 million.

The rally is not a race but a guided tour from Roma to Cameroon Corner, Tibooburra, Betoota, Birdsville, Big Red and Innamincka the rally will wrap up in Longreach on September 1.

Event organiser Nathan Woolhouse said participants get to enjoy private station tracks, national and state parks all while having a great time with fellow drivers along the way.
“A great bonus this year is the stop in Cameron Corner; a chance to stand in three states at one time and certainly an opportunity of a lifetime,” Mr Woolhouse said.

With the large convoy, organisers say safety is the main priority, with measures in place to ensure participants feel safe in their experience.

“Each car will have a RallySafe monitoring system, to help keep us across the live progress of every team. We’ll also have a convoy of support vehicles to ensure every team enjoys the experience and feels safe.

“This really will be an experience of a lifetime, all while helping to raise funds to support people with disability turn possibilities into reality,” said Mr Woolhouse.
