POLICE are investigating the mystery drowning death of a wheelchair-bound woman in a small pond in Adelaide’s south parklands.
POLICE are investigating the mystery drowning death of a wheelchair-bound woman in a small pond in Adelaide’s south parklands.
Emergency services were called to Veale Gardens, off South Tce in the city, just before 6.30pm on Sunday following reports a woman in a wheelchair had fallen into a pond.
Attempts to revive the woman, 67, of Valley View, were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Water Operations divers were called in to retrieve the woman’s body from the 1.5m-deep pond.
Eastern Adelaide detectives are investigating the death and have spoken with a companion of the woman who was at the scene.
Police and forensic services focused their investigations on the area directly around the pond and a nearby car parked on South Tce.
A spokesman said police needed to investigate further to determine if the death was suspicious. A post mortem of the woman is expected later today.
