Woman reports April attack in Oaklands Park, following another assault caught on camera there last week

A woman has reported being attacked in Oaklands Park, in circumstances “strikingly similar” to that of the female jogger assaulted there last week.

Second jogger assaulted at Oaklands Park

A second jogger has reported being assaulted while walking in Adelaide’s south.

The woman was walking in Oaklands Park in the early hours of April 1 when she was assaulted near the rail crossing on Crozier Tce.

Footage of the attack shows a man in dark clothing running up behind the woman as she walks through the park near Minchinbury Terrace.

Southern district Detective chief inspector Scott Fitzgerald said the women in both incidents had been left shaken.

“Police are investigating two incidents of indecent assault over a six week period at Oaklands wetland reserve,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

“Both occurred at around 6am and involved female joggers being approached by a man and grabbed from behind.

“We are not sure whether these are the acts of one or two people but the incidents are strikingly similar.”

He labelled the incidents as cowardly and said both uniformed and plain clothes police would be patrolling the reserve, particularly in the mornings.

“We are devoting substantial resources to the area to keep people safe,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

“We have plain clothes officers in the area. So I say to residents keep doing what you are doing and together we will keep this place safe.”

The attack occurred less than three hundred meters from Westminster School.

The victim did not report the incident to police until she became aware of a similar assault, caught on camera in the early hours of last Thursday morning.

A man can be seen running up behind the woman and assaulting her near bus stop 22B on Oaklands Rd at Oaklands Recreation Plaza.

She broke free from her attacker before he fled west towards the plaza.

The victim was not injured in the incident.
