A SHOCKED neighbour has told of the bloody scene inside a bathroom where a woman with stab wounds was found overnight.

Police were dispatched to Mellor Court in Gilberton at about 11.45pm on Tuesday after receiving reports of an altercation between people at a unit.

When officers arrived they found an unconscious woman who was bleeding heavily from a stab wound to the upper left leg in the bathroom.

Ambulance officers treated the 38-year-old woman at the scene before she was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. She remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 38-year-old man was also treated at the scene for head injuries after allegedly being punched several times by the same person suspected of stabbing the woman.

Neighbour Mark, who did not want his last name published, went to the unit to check on the wellbeing of people at the property following the incident.

“In the bathroom you can’t see a white tile on the floor — it was bright red,” he said.

“It’s sad because somebody nearly lost their life last night.”

Mark said it was chaotic at the unit complex, which is half private owned and half Housing Trust-owned.

“The police came over a noise complaint because they were swearing and carrying on,” he said.

“(They said) ‘I’m going to f***** kill you, I’ll stab you’.”

Another neighbour Greg said police were knocking on neighbour’s doors and telling them they weren’t to leave the premises after the assault.

“God bless her — I hope she’s all right,” he said.

Greg said violence within the complex was commonplace and had escalated in recent weeks.

“I’m putting in for a transfer — I don’t want to live here anymore,” he said.

The arrested man was refused police bail and will appear in court later on Wednesday.
