A woman in her 60s suffered deep cuts on her arms during a “shocking” assault of her and another person near the demolition site of a historic warehouse in Port Adelaide.

The Advertiser has obtained an image showing the extent of the injuries to the woman, who was one of two people allegedly assaulted on Friday as they took drone photos of asbestos being removed from Shed 26 in Semaphore.

The building will be demolished to make way for a $160 million housing project by developer Cedar Woods.

As they operated the drone a distance away from the shed, they were allegedly confronted by a 53-year-old Warradale man.

He was been arrested and charged and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court.

Emma Webb, spokeswoman of Save Shed 26 — the group that tried to save the historic sawtooth shed — said she was shocked by the incident.

“They were simply documenting the removal of asbestos from the roof of the shed,” she told The Advertiser.

“To then have this attack is incredibly shocking and resulted in serious injuries (to the woman).

“We are shocked that this situation has occurred and it feels indicative of the way that this process has been so disregarding of civil people using democratic processes to protect Port Adelaide’s heritage.”
