A young woman has been banned from the Adelaide Oval for three years after she allegedly slapped and punched a fellow spectator during an AFL match.

The 26-year-old from Sheidow Park was charged with assault, resist police and failing to provide her details to police over the incident.

As the court proceedings continue, the Adelaide Oval issued the woman a three-year ban from attending further matches.

An Adelaide Oval Stadium Management spokesman said the decision had followed discussion with South Australian Police.

“The Stadium Management Authority has issued a three-year banning notice to the patron involved in an incident at the Round 18 match between Adelaide and Essendon,” he said.

“Following consultation with SAPOL and the AFL, the patron has been banned from attending Adelaide Oval for the next three years. This venue ban is in addition to the SAPOL issued three-month barring order.

“Over 700,000 fans have attended AFL games this season and we will not let the actions of a small number of individuals overshadow the good behaviour of the vast majority of patrons.”
