Three teen girls after stolen ute crashed into two police cars at West Croydon
THREE teen girls have appeared in court charged with assaulting a staff member at a State Government facility before one drove off in a stolen Toyota Hilux, leaving a trail of destruction through the western suburbs.
THREE teenage girls are accused of assaulting a man before one drove off in a stolen ute, an Adelaide court has heard.
Residents described chaotic scenes as the three girls allegedly stole a car and rammed a police vehicle on Monday night – before one drove on, continuing the rampage through the western suburbs.
On Tuesday, Youth Court Magistrate Oliver Koehn heard two of the girls had been banned from spending time together.
The incident began at a Queenstown property after 9pm when three girls – two 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old – allegedly broke a window and stole the keys to a Toyota Hilux in the carpark. As staff members rushed to intervene, the keys were briefly taken away from the girls.
The youngest girl is accused of holding the ankles of a man to stop him from moving as the other two girls allegedly assaulted him, taking the keys back.
As the car left the site, it crashed into a parked car and a police car that had been called to the scene.
Police said two of the girls got out of the car and were taken into custody but one of the 15-year-olds drove away in the ute, heading north along Port Rd, where it crashed into a second police car. The officer suffered minor injuries.
After a pursuit, it crashed into a fence and Stobie pole in West Croydon, where the girl was arrested.
All three girls were charged with a string of offences, including aggravated assault, and refused bail.
The court ordered bail reports for two of the girls.
A resident in Kingsley St, West Croydon, said he heard a loud bang as the ute ended the wild ride with a crash.
“We came out and we saw one person run down the road and then she was chased (by police) and they had her on the ground,” the man, who did not wish to be named, said.
The ute damaged resident 82-year-old Chris Christofilos’ fence, who said “there was a big noise” outside his home about 10pm.
“I saw five or six police cars and the other car up near the post,” he said. “All the front of the car was smashed.”
