A TEENAGER and a man who tried to car jack two people while on the run from police have been arrested and charged.

The pair had stolen two luxury cars and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewellery and electronics from a house in Brompton before dumping one of the vehicles at a bust shopping centre in the north eastern suburbs.

Sometime between midnight and 4am, intruders broke into the Kiln Drive home while the occupants were asleep.

The thieves took jewellery, bank cards and handbags before escaping in the luxury cars — a white 2017 Maserati and an orange 2014 BMW 650I sedan.

The Maserati was found abandoned on Lexington Rd, Henley Beach South, about 11.30am.

About an hour later, the BMW was spotted in Dudley St at Mansfield Park.

PolAir (the SAPOL helicopter) was used for aerial support and tracked down the BMW on Churchill Rd, Prospect.

PolAir then followed the car to Greenacres where it was dumped at the Northgate Shopping Centre.

A 25-year-old man of no fixed address and an 18-year-old from Pennington tried to steal two cars, assaulting the owner of one vehicle before running as patrols swarmed the area.

One suspect was found in the rear yard of a house at Oakden.

Police dogs sniffed out the scent of the second suspect and he was arrested in a yard on Fosters Rd.

Both were interviewed by police and charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and aggravated robbery.

Both were refused bail and will appear in court on Monday.

Police are also investigating a break-in at Croydon where a white Holden station wagon was stolen from a home on Thomas St.

The car, with registration S754BDB, took off as the occupants woke up about 6.30am.

A laptop and mobile phones were also stolen.

If anyone spots the stolen cars or has information on their whereabouts, please call police immediately on 131 444.

Anyone with information on the break-ins or witnessed any suspicious activity in the area is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
