A man has been remanded in custody over the death of his passenger in a car crash at Para Hills.
Hayden Pepe, 19, of Salisbury East appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Friday after his arrest on Thursday night.
Pepe is charged with aggravated causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving to engage in a police pursuit, driving while disqualified and breaching bail conditions.
He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody to face court again in April.
Police allege Pepe, below, was speeding at more than 100km/h in a 60km/h zone in a silver Ford sedan along Nelson Rd, near McIntyre Rd, about 10.30pm on December 19.
An unmarked police car activated emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop Pepe but they allege he accelerated away and they were forced to abandon the pursuit.
Less than two minutes later, the car plunged down a gully and hit several trees.
Pepe was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries but his passenger – Phillip Frith, 19, of Salisbury – died at the scene.
Police will also allege that when they were arresting Pepe, they were hindered by another man at the home. The man, 54, was charged with hindering police and resisting arrest. He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later this month.
