A TEENAGER has been arrested for drink driving after crashing his car into a tree in Adelaide’s south.

Police were called to Wurilba Ave, Hawthorn, after reports a car — displaying “L” plates — had crashed into a tree and burst into flames just after 12am on Wednesday.

Fire crews put out the blaze, which had spread to the tree but not before extensive damage was done to the black Holden Astra.

When police arrived, witnesses told officers the driver of the car had run off but the passenger was still at the scene.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the driver.

No one was injured during the crash.

As a result of an investigation, police attended an address on Angus Ave, Westbourne Park, and found the driver.

The learner driver — an 18-year-old man from Westbourne Park — was breath tested and allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.045 per cent.

He was reported for breach of learner conditions and driving without due car and will be summonsed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.
