SOME may think it’s a humerus prank but the latest theft from an exhibition in the Adelaide City Library tickles no funny bone.

Police are investigating after fake council workers stole a skeleton from the Australian Orthopaedic Association’s travelling exhibition inside the Rundle Mall library about 4.15pm on Sunday.

A group of burglars, disguised as council workers, infiltrated the free event and escaped with the replica fibreglass skeleton, the association’s spokesman said.

The bare-bones display, which costs between $200 to $500 to replace, was one of the centrepieces of the two-week long exhibition, which showcased orthopedic joint replacement procedures.

The association hopes to get the skeleton back before the exhibition finishes in Adelaide on Thursday and hits the next stop at a New South Wales hospital.

“It’s a very hands-on exhibition, the community can hold, touch the displays,” the association’s spokesman said.

“We are going to replace (the skeleton) but it depends if we can get it back.”

CCTV footage of the incident was not released to the public.

The Adelaide City Council has declined to comment on the incident as police investigation was underway.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
