Patrols was trying to break up a brawl outside McDonalds on Hindley St about 8.15pm on Friday when the officer was punched in the head.
A Fulham Gardens boy, 17, was arrested and charged with assault and aggravated assault.
He was granted bail to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court in November.
The officer was treated at the Wakefield Hospital but did not sustain serious injuries.
