A man has been charged with the rape of a woman at a Munno Para park.
Special Crimes Investigation Branch detectives arrested a Smithfield Plains man, 34, just after 8am on Wednesday.
He was charged with two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and one aggravated count of assault causing harm. The man was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Police said last Saturday the woman was wearing headphones and was oblivious to the man, who hit her on the head with a “hammer-like weapon” about 7am on October 11.
They said the victim, who was walking on a path through a wetlands area near Ramsar Rd, was taken into the bushes and sexually assaulted.
Special Crimes Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Chief Inspector Richard Lambert said the man was known to police.
He declined to say whether officers had found the weapon used in the attack.
“(The incident) is very disturbing because it occurred in an isolated place, a public place, where you’ve got a woman who’s going about her normal day-to-day duties and doing her normal activity and she’s attacked by surprise,” Chief-Insp Lambert said.
