AN ELDERLY woman has died after being hit by a car at Whyalla Playford, the first death on the roads in SA in 2018.

AN ELDERLY woman has died after being hit by a car at Whyalla Playford, the first death on the roads in SA in 2018.

The accident happened at the intersection of Lacey and Brealey streets about 6.40am on Saturday.

The driver, a 42-year-old Whyalla man was not injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Roads were closed while Major Crash officers investigated the accident but they have since been re-opened.
The road toll now stands at one.
