A MAN has fought off a masked attacker armed with a knife after answering a knock at the front door of his Semaphore home in the early hours of Friday morning.

The victim opened the front door of his Brown St home about 12.40am Friday morning, and was then attacked, leaving him with multiple injuries after a struggle.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and did not go to hospital.

Neighbour Vicki Whiting said she heard two males aggressively yelling at each other around the time of the attack.

“They were running up the street, towards Military Rd, and they were just being abusive,” she said.

Ms Whiting said it was concerning the incident happened in the usually quiet street.

“You don’t normally get trouble like that at all,” she said.

“We might start locking up now I think.”

The suspect is described as of caucasian appearance aged in his early 30s and wearing a mask.

He was of a solid build and is thought to be under 183cm tall. He was wearing a black hoodie, dark trackpants, possibly with a white stripe down the sides, and runners.

Police used a dog to search the area but could not find the suspect.

The attack is not believed to be random, police say.

Anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity or vehicles in the Brown Street area last night is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperssa.com.au
