Man caught doing burnout in front of police at Port Adelaide

A man decided to throw a large burnout in front of a group of people in Port Adelaide in the early hours of Sunday morning — among the crowd were the police. They weren’t thrilled.

A driver has been caught red-handed doing a dangerous burnout in front of police officers at Port Adelaide.

Police received reports a large number of cars was congregating on Moorhouse Rd just after midnight on Sunday.

When they arrived, they allegedly saw a Ford sedan doing a large burnout.

The Burton man, 48, was stopped and breath-tested, allegedly returning a positive result of 0.103 — more than two times over the limit.

He was reported for misuse of motor vehicle and drink driving, lost his licence for six months and had his car impounded.

It comes as dozens of drivers were caught drink or drug driving in large police blitz across Adelaide overnight.

Eight out of 67 people tested positive to driving with methamphetamine or cannabis in their system.

Nearly 20 people were caught drink driving among 3000 motorists breath tested.

■ A Prospect woman, 47, allegedly blew 0.167 — more than three times over the limit.

■ A West Beach man, 35, returned 0.151.

■ A Hazelwood Park man, 20, allegedly recorded 0.127.

There were 28 fines dished out to motorists and 25 cars defected.

The traffic sting conducted between 7pm Saturday and 3.30am Sunday was part of a four-week long Operation High Impact targeting the fatal five offences of drink and drug driving, speeding, distraction, seatbelts and dangerous road users.
