A WOMAN who fatally stabbed her housemate, and allegedly licked his blood off the knife, tried to blame the sole eyewitness immediately after the incident, a court has heard.

A Supreme Court jury was on Tuesday shown police video footage of Peanne Carol Prak’s arrest for the alleged murder of Michael “Macca” McEvoy, 65, in May 2016.

In it, Prak — who now insists the incident was manslaughter, not murder — repeatedly denies all wrongdoing and blames her ex-boyfriend, Andrew Mallinson, for the stabbing.

“Macca was my best friend, he was angry with Andrew ... I’m sorry, I tried to pick him up but there was blood coming out of his mouth,” she says.

“Andrew did it, he put the knife in my hand ... I said ‘how could you do this?’.

“I didn’t kill anyone, I didn’t kill anybody, Macca was my best friend, I loved him.”

Prak, 42, is standing trial for murder after prosecutors refused to accept her guilty plea to the lesser crime of manslaughter.

They allege she stabbed Mr McEvoy, 65, in the heart, licked the blood from the knife, told Mr Mallinson “now you can see what I’m capable of” and inflicted seven more stab wounds.

Prosecutors have told jurors the knife tested positive for Mr McEvoy’s blood and Prak’s saliva, but had no forensic links to Mr Mallinson.

They further allege that, while her blood alcohol level during the incident was 0.37, she was still capable of forming the intent to murder because of her high tolerance for liquor.

In the video, Prak gives police the correct spelling of her name, her phone number, her lawyer’s details and addresses for both herself and Mr Mallinson.

She also details her medical history, claiming she has “had a heart attack”.

“I want to go to hospital, and I need to, and if you don’t take me you will be in trouble ... do you understand? I have cardiomyopathy,” she says.

Prak repeatedly asks for a drink and a cigarettes during the video.

“I didn’t kill him ... if you give me a smoke, I will tell you the truth — exactly the truth,” she says.

When told Mr McEvoy had died, she becomes emotional.

“He can’t be ... I felt his pulse, it felt like it wasn’t beating ... he can’t be dead,” she says.

“It’s bad enough you arrest me, knowing my best friend is dead ... please, Macca, come back.”

The trial, before Justice David Peek and a jury, continues.
