LABOR says it will demand a judicial inquiry into its claim that Attorney-General Vickie Chapman may have broken secrecy laws, unless she immediately explains an apparent conflict with the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption.

On Thursday, Ms Chapman issued a statement saying she had spoken to ICAC Commissioner Bruce Lander about whether he would make any information available about the absences of two Renewal SA executives, and was told that he would not. Mr Lander later issued a statement authorising the media to publish Ms Chapman’s statement.

Labor believes Ms Chapman may have broken the law by publishing information which suggests a person is the subject of an ICAC investigation.

Opposition legal affairs spokesman Kyam Maher told The Advertiser Ms Chapman must end a four-day vow of public silence and explain herself.

“Unless there is that clarification first thing in the morning, the Labor Opposition will be calling on Premier Steven Marshall to institute an independent judicial inquiry,” he said.

Ms Chapman’s office declined to comment.
