An alleged drunk driver charged over the crash that killed Adam Joseph at O’Halloran Hill has been granted bail and will ring in the new year at home.
Joshua Norman, 23, of Aberfoyle Park, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday charged with aggravated cause death by dangerous driving and drink driving.
He allegedly blew 0.191 after he struck 21-year-old Adam Joseph in a white Mercedes-Benz sedan on Black Rd, O’Halloran Hill, near the intersection of Main South Rd on Saturday.
The alleged victim was walking from the Victoria Hotel with a group of friends when he was fatally hit just before 4am.
Norman’s mother Vicki Norman was present in court and acted as a guarantor when the driver was released on simple bail.
The accused, who was taken into police custody since the crash after a visit to the hospital, hung his head during his appearance in court.
He will face court again on a charge determination hearing in April.
Magistrate Kym Millard warned Norman that he has been disqualified from driving.
“If you drive in contravention of your bail, your bail condition will be revoked and you will remain in custody until the matter is resolved,” he said.
Mr Joseph’s distraught parents, David Joseph and Lisa Hallett, told The Advertiser that their son was a “real battler” and “everybody’s friend”.
The Flagstaff Hill soccer talent played with Noarlunga United Soccer Club and was due to leave for the UK in January for a placement with Arsenal Football Club.
A GoFundMe campaign to help support Mr Joseph’s family raised more than $14,000 in two days.
The straight stretch of Black Rd where Mr Joseph was struck has no overhead lighting or homes on either side.
Mr Joseph was the 79th death on SA roads and the sixth pedestrian killed this year.
