FLAMES have caused more than $300,000 to a house in Bridgewater, gutting the two-storey home.

Mount Barker house fire

A FIRE has gutted a two-storey home in the Adelaide Hills, causing more than $300,000 damage but luckily no injuries.

Emergency services were called to the address on Driffield Rd at Bridgewater just after 2.45pm on Tuesday.

The alarm was raised by a lone occupant in the house who escaped unharmed.

The Country Fire Services dispatched more units to the fire as smoke started pouring from the house’s roof.

An alert was issued to the surrounding neighbourhoods warning them of smoke in the area.

Seven CFS units with about 40 firefighters fought the blaze and kept it isolated to the one house, protecting surrounding properties.

By 3.40pm the fire was contained but had caused extensive damage to both floors of the house and had also entered the roof space.

Fire-cause investigators are expected to attend the scene this afternoon though the fire is not thought to be suspicious.

The CFS estimate the fire caused more than $300,000 damage to the property.

It comes as suspected arsonists started two fires on Tuesday at Paracombe and Forreston.
