FAMILY and friends of Mt Gambier father Rex Court, who was killed during a sickening group brawl in the South-East at the weekend, have spoken on social media of their shock about his sudden death.
Mr Court, 32, died in hospital after a large fight involving up to 16 people on Commercial St East, in Mt Gambier, on Saturday night.
His friend Anthony Wilson, 26, was yesterday in a serious but stable condition at Flinders Medical Centre, while a third man, 22, was treated for facial injuries at Mt Gambier Hospital following the fight.
A 15-year-old boy appeared in the Mt Gambier Magistrates Court on Monday charged with Mr Court’s murder.
Following the shock death, Tineal Earle posted on social media: “I love you cousin. Words can’t describe the feelings me and my family are going though.
“This just isn’t fair. You were too young, your memories cut short.
“You and your big smile will always be in my heart Rexy.”
Iesha Riches posted that she wished his young children all the best and was sending her love.
“R. I. P to my cousin Rexy Court — words couldn’t describe the pain we are all in,” she posted.
Others posted photos of Mr Court, saying they still couldn’t believe he was gone.
Chloe Louise wrote: “Gonna miss you, was only thinking about all the chills out the back of your place in Bordertown.”
Police believe Mr Court and his two friends and another group had been attending licensed venues and were passing on opposite sides of the street when the “alcohol-fuelled” argument began about 9pm.
The three men crossed the road and approached the larger group when a fight broke out.
One man was knocked unconscious, a second man was punched to the head several times and a third was injured trying to break up the fight.
Witnesses reported a black Ford Territory station wagon pulling up during the fight and another group leaving the car before joining the assault.
The group left the area outside a licensed venue, and the car drove away before police and paramedics arrived at the scene.
