A ROCK has been thrown on a man’s car on the Southern Expressway — the third incident in less than two weeks.

He was driving north when a rock was flung from the Elizabeth Rd Bridge at Christie Downs just after 5.30am.

The driver was not injured.

This is the 11th incident since February, as concerned residents joined fearful motorists to call for action to be taken against the offenders.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull yesterday likened the dangerous act to starting a bushfire.

On Tuesday, a rock smashed a passenger side window of a car before the Majors Rd overpass.

On May 24, mother-of-two Lauren Mangelsdorf and her toddler son Lachlan narrowly escaped serious injury when a rock struck her bonnet and ricocheted up the windscreen.

Premier Steven Marshall ruled out offering a reward for anyone who provides information which leads to a conviction over rock throwing attacks on the Southern Expressway.

Instead, the Government is looking into ways to install cages on bridges along the expressway.

Police are investigating the incident and encourage anyone who has any information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.

Police also encourage anyone who sees any suspicious activity around the expressway or people standing at the side of the expressway to immediately contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.
