A CONVICTED child-sex offender, who last month was denied entry to Bali, is running a $2000-a-night lavish coastal guesthouse now under investigation.

Corey John Ahlburg, 45, is listed as the host and owner of the state-of-the-art clifftop Ora Luxury Villa at Moana, south of Adelaide.

Onkaparinga Council is investigating the use of the property, which has gained a reputation as a party house and drawn the ire of numerous locals.

The villa, advertised on AirBNB and Stayz for $2000 a night, is spruiked as an accommodation for individuals, couples or groups and designed specifically for comfort and pleasure.

It includes a pool, spa, grand piano overlooking the ocean and four bedrooms, each equipped with their own bathrooms.

“We can tailor an experience to suit your needs from private drivers to chefs on demand, whatever your heart wants is our desire,” Ora Luxury Villa’s website states. It has been reported that a premium accommodation package costs $12,500 a night.

Mt Gambier chef Kirby Shearing, who Tourism Minister Leon Bignell described as in his “top five chefs in South Australia”, is often hired by Ahlburg to cater at the villa.

Mr Shearing, who operates a successful catering company, said he was unaware of Ahlburg’s criminal history. “He is one of many clients that I do work for,” Mr Kirby told the Sunday Mail.

The Sunday Mail has been unable to contact Ahlburg, who Indonesian immigration officials stopped from entering Bali on August 27.

In 1993, Ahlburg, as a 20-year-old, was found guilty of unlawful sexual intercourse with two intoxicated girls, aged 15 and 16, at his home after a party.

He was jailed for a minimum of 12 months after failing to appeal his sentence.

Ahlburg was on parole when, in 1997, he swerved on to the wrong side of the road, slamming into an oncoming car and killing a woman.

He was found not guilty of causing death and bodily harm by dangerous driving, but convicted of the lesser charge of driving without due care, and jailed for almost 10 months.

When the Sunday Mail visited the Ora Luxury Villa, a Range Rover 4WD and an Ora-labelled Mercedes sedan were in the driveway, and a sedan with two jet skis was parked out the front. However nobody answered the door.

Onkaparinga Council’s corporate and city services acting director Renee Mitchell said: “We have received inquiries about the use of premises, which we are currently investigating.

“Should it be found that breaches of the approval or unauthorised development are occurring, appropriate enforcement may be taken,” Ms Mitchell said.

Ahlburg was one of two men turned away from Bali last month by Indonesian authorities.

Another man arrived at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali on a flight from Adelaide on the same day Ahlburg arrived from Brisbane.

An Australian Federal Police spokesman said it could not speak about individual cases.

Indonesia has adopted a hard line on sex offenders entering the country and now has a policy of banning any from coming in if they are notified of their arrivals.

So far this year, 15 Australian sex offenders have been banned from entering Bali. Last year, 37 were rejected.

They are immediately turned around at the airport, held in immigration custody, and flown home on the next flight.

The head of Ngurah rai Immigration in Bali, Ari Budijanto, said most of the paedophiles blocked from entering Bali were from Australia. Mr Budijanto said that, when asked, the majority said they wanted to have a holiday in Bali and had travelled alone.

“We only want to accept foreigners that are beneficial for Indonesia. We don’t want to accept those people who do not give a contribution to our country,” Mr Budijanto said of the policy to block all known paedophiles.
