Police are hunting users of illegal fireworks who have started at least two grass fires in as many days at Aldinga Beach, ignoring dangerous bushfire conditions.
Sparks from fireworks lit on the beachfront, close to the Esplanade, ignited a blaze in nearby grass scrub about 9.45pm on Saturday.
More than five CFS trucks responded to the fire, which was quickly contained and extinguished.
CFS crews have been on high alert since Friday night when fireworks caused a serious grass fire on Button Rd, between Sellicks Beach and Silver Sands.
After the incident, Aldinga Beach CFS used social media to slam those responsible for the dangerous and careless behaviour.
“It is known that there were illegal fireworks used last night in our local area, in multiple locations. This is not acceptable on any level,” the Facebook post said.
“(The) fire (Friday) night in the Button Rd, Sellicks/Silver Sands area demonstrated how quickly fire can move in our current conditions.
“We urge the community to be aware and alert, we have hazardous conditions forecast for the days ahead.
The post urged the community to report suspicious activity to police ahead of New Year’s Eve on Tuesday.
